GENERAL

The Property Division is tasked with the planning, development and management of land, management of property and industrial development.

DEVELOPMENT OF NEW TOWNSHIP

PDC has developed the Bayan Baru Township and Seberang Jaya Township. Presently emphasis is given to the development of Batu Kawan Township. Till 2005, PDC’s involvement include the construction of housing and commercial units. However, after 2005, PDC’s focus is on infrastructure and social projects, while the task of development of housing and shoplots/offices was taken over by PDC’s wholly-owned subsidiary PDC Properties Sdn Bhd and PDC Homes Sdn Bhd.

URBAN RENEWAL

PDC’s urban renewal project is focused on the KOMTAR commercial project and the housing projects of Lebuh Macallum, Sungai Pinang and Jalan Kedah.

PRIVATISATION AND SALES OF LAND

The involvement of the private sector in PDC’s development plans is welcomed especially in the sectors that act as a catalyst for development for example universities and colleges, medical centre and tourism projects. Presently the attraction for investors is in the Batu Kawan Township.

Batu Kawan is the “the heart of the Northern Corridor Economic Region” and is located strategically at the entry point into the island through the second Penang Bridge. The location of an industrial park in Batu Kawan corresponding to the one in Bayan Lepas Industrial Park, is only about 25 minutes away from the Bayan Lepas International Airport. Batu Kawan is “ a township that addresses socio-economic development in a holistic and sustainable fashion with particular emphasis being placed on affordability and a healthy investment climate”.
